Dentigerous cyst

General features:
Also known as follicular cyst
Most common odontogenic cyst
Most common cause of pericoronal lucency with impacted tooth
Arises from the lining of dental follicle
Seen in adolescents and young adults

Location:
Around crown of unerupted mandibular third molar

Clinical features:
Typically pain free

Imaging:
Well-defined, round or ovoid, corticated, lucent lesions around the crowns of unerupted third molar and the root is often outside the lesion

Complications:
Untreated cyst may develop ameloblastoma within (mural ameloblastoma)
Malignant transformation rare

Management:
Extraction of associated tooth and removal of cyst
